Jane Doe.

Highways have taught me that cities divided aren’t worlds apart. I’ve been to London and Dubai, San Diego and Australia and with me are the pieces I’ve picked up along the way. I haven’t forgotten your legacy, it makes the windy road a little straighter, the dirt and noise a room remembered, the city lights a clear North Carolina night sky. I am good at convincing you and compromising myself, I can’t deny you what you deserve. There wasn’t ever enough right about this to ever outdo how much would have gone wrong.

And maybe given differing circumstances, you on the curb and me with the 6-pack would have changed everything but you said what you said and I’m not denying it. Time and time again this timeless mystery has made someout to be the enemy. Though there’s no cell for this crime, we’ve posted bail and it’s made us numb. Usually the bad dreams know better to stay away but tonight…I welcome the haunting. I want everything you’ve got so come on in and talk to me. You’ve got yours and I have mine and so at last the ducks have aligned and the reality sinks in…that we have only that which we believe in and you (told me) you stopped believing a long time ago.
